2407 Arthur Avenue Bronx, NY 10458

Neapolitan cooking is at its best when cooks adhere to the simple virtues of fresh and unencumbered; by those standards, Ann and Tony’s succeeds. On the quiet side of Arthur Avenue, this fifth generation Bronx landmark provides a modest but neat dining room, a sedate spot with paintings of the Bay of Sorrento and Mt. Vesuvius bracketed with oak frames meant to resemble baroque windows.

Not as well known as other Belmont restaurants like Dominick’s and Mario’s, Ann and Tony’s settles instead for a less glossy yet easy charm. Chef and occasional waiter Anthony Napolitano is the latest of his family in charge, focusing on well-crafted ingredients, such as just-made mozzarella and lightly sautéed plum tomatoes for sauce, while avoiding the oil and garlic excesses of bad Italo-American cookery.

A rolled, lightly breaded eggplant appetizer stuffed with fresh ricotta is airy and subtle; well-pounded veal Sorrentino layered with paper-thin slices of prosciutto, eggplant and mozzarella melds together winningly; and clams Posillipo are briny and bracing.

Hidden Jewel – Fantastic Food and Service: I saw this restaurant while driving through Arthur Avenue, it is located on the north end of the Avenue.

It is one block from the section with all the stores and restaurants, so it is relatively quiet. Since there are less people in that block, it is easily passed by, but boy, you will miss some great food and prompt and friendly service.

The place is nice, cozy, clean and romantic. I had the gnocchi and veal columbo…delicious, good portions and at a very reasonable price. The gnocchi was home made and the breaded veal with prosciutto and a cream-brandy sauce was wonderful.

I then had a espresso to finish off the great meal and it was also well made. I am picky when it comes to Italian food and espresso and let me tell you, you won’t be dissapointed.

The owner, Tony, who is the great-grandson of the original Tony who started this, makes sure that you are satisfied and taken care of. I highly recommend this place!

This Was My First Time Here

6 diners, 41 to 60 years old, $25 – $49 per person, Visit again? Yes

I ate the stuffed artichoke heart, rolled eggplant and fried calamari as appetizers. I had the Veal Ann & Tony’s with prosciutto, mozzarella, artichoke hearts, and mushrooms. A side order of spinach sauteed in oil & garlic. For dessert I had cappuccino and the homemade canoli’s.

This was my first time here. I usually go to the middle of the street where the other restaurants are. I passed this place many times but never went in. I didn’t realize it has been here for so long. I think 80 years run by the same family.

The great-grandson Anthony is the chef and his brother Ralph was our waiter. They were the best. And the rest of the staff took great care of us. I love this place.

The food was great and the atmosphere was top notch. I have been coming to Arthur Ave for 20 years and this by far is the best. I can’t believe it took me so long to go there. Get there ASAP! You’ll love it…I promise.

We are going to make this our regular stop on Arthur Ave. from now on.

Food is great and service is good. Plus the price of food to quality and quantity is perfect. But, most of all my wife and children love it which makes dining there most enjoyable. We come in from Long Island. A good experience all around. Great food and friendly staff with good prices.

The food was very good and you had a nice large variety of food to choose from. Your spinach ravioli was excellent. It was a special, please keep that on your menu, it was great. Very different. The service was great and the prices were reasonable.

We love the house wines, the bread and oil, and our dinners. We never have been disappointed. Wait staff is so professional and cordial. We’ll be back! The food is fresh and delicious…truly Italian. The wines are wonderful, and dinner at Ann and Tony’s is the perfect ending to a day at the botanical gardens.

Arthur Avenue's Ann & Tony's Restaurant

ZAGAT - New York City Restaurants (2011)

” One of the least touted places on Arthur Ave but with better food than most.

Family atmosphere, attentive service, and a varied menu. Specials are imaginative without being bizarre.

Parking is better there than in other spots in the neighborhood. I try the other “Names” on Arthur Ave. but return here often. ”

“Ann and Tony’s is a fabulous restaurant that brings out the best of Belmont.

The neighborhood is safe despite it being in the Bronx.

The Lasagna was delicious, the Eggplant was phenomenal, and the meat sauce was the best I’ve ever had (don’t tell Mom!)”

J. santa

“The food is terrific, the service is excellent. How many restaurants remain open over 80 years? How many businesses remain open for 80 years?

The calamari is outstanding. My favorite dish is Veal Sorentino. We had my friend’s 60th Birthday there. He never has anything nice to say when we go out. Not the case with our meal here. Say no more. Check it out.”

Dr. Michael

“Better Italian food than you’ll find in Italy. Simple yet wonderful Italian dishes prepared with care and loaded with flavor. You will LOVE the food. Owned by the same family since opening in 1927, and judging by the food, they will be around for many decades to come.”

” For the best sauces on Arthur Ave this is the place to go. The vodka, scarpello, marinara & marsala sauces were sublime. The carbonara stars; rich & studded with lots of prosciutto.”

” The way it was.

I have eaten in this restaurant since 1959. My parents since the 1930. My uncles since they opened.

Now I live In Florida but when I go up north ever year I go to eat here. ”

“Great food and service

the food is so good and the portions so big I took it home and have another meal the next day. It even tasted better the next day. The taste of the food is just so- so -so -so – delicious.”

” I have eaten at Ann & Tony’s twice, and both times the service and food were EXCELLENT.

With the amount of food they serve you, it is a great value.

In my opinion, one of the best on Arthur Avenue! ”

luska

“I eat at Ann and Tony’s fairly often and I love it.

Not only is everyone welcoming and charming but the food is comforting, rich, and tastes homemade.”

An Italian Food Lover

” As a fordham student of several years, my family and i have eaten at every restaurant on arthur ave and believe that ann and tonys is hands down the best.

the chicken francais is so delicious my mother brings it up in every food conversation we have and ive ordered several entrees and have never been disappointed.

the staff is friendly and chef anthony personally ensures that every dish is perfection! i highly suggest that anyone in the area check it out and i cant wait to go back soon! ”

” Ann & Tony’s is our favorite NYC Italian restaurant. Having discovered it while our daughter was attending Fordham, we haven’t ever been able to say goodbye to the place even though she graduated 5 years ago.

Since the days when Ralph, Sr. ran his family establishment to today while in the good hands of his wife and sons, the restaurant maintains everything the family has worked hard to establish!

The food is awe inspiring and absolutely freshly prepared. If you want something special, Chef Anthony will make every effort to please the guest.

The bread and salads served before the main courses are a delicious way to get the taste buds ready for what’s to come. We have taken several larger groups here to share our enthusiasm for the food and the quality and service have been flawless… from gnocchi with pesto and baked ziti, to osso bucco and chicken marsala, everything is fantastic!!

What reviewer #1 has written is unbelievably hard for me to fathom. Maybe a family member owns another restaurant on the Avenue and needs to cut into Ann & Tony’s reputation to better their own.

There is only one place to eat on Arthur Avenue and that’s Ann & Tony’s!! ”

” An often overlooked restaurant

With all the good restaurants in Arthur Avenue, it isn’t surprising that there might be some that aren’t noticed as much as others. Ann and Tony’s is one of these restaurants. I really enjoyed my dinner here. We started off with very good bread and salad. I had chicken Cardinale for dinner, and it was made with the most incredible mozzarella and proscuitto. They clearly take advantage of having access to the best Italian ingredients from Arthur Avenue. It is a great place nonetheless. Enjoy! ”

” By far the best-fried calamari–never been disappointed. And the other food is just as good. Highly recommend the Penne with sausage and broccoli rabe. Just on the north end of the Arthur Ave. area, this gem is often overlooked.

Pros: Reasonable prices, Good food ”

flittlehouse

” A classic family place

I have dined here many times with my family and we always keep coming back for more, the most outstanding thing on the menu seems to be the veal which is really outstanding here, particularly the veal Oscar. The portions are also very good. This place is the real deal and more private and relaxing than the other restaurants south on the Avenue.

Pros: attentive service, the veal, the food ”

” My cousin had her wedding rehearsal dinner here. The food was great! We had the hot antipasto, the cold antipasto, a choice of penne alla vodka or rigatoni with tomato sauce, a choice of veal pizziola, chicken marsala or fish almondine, and cannoli.

The penne was good, the veal was great, and I loved the antipasto, especially the eggplant rollatine. The cannoli filling was out of this world – light and fluffy, and not as gritty as other cannoli I’ve had.

Not far from the Metro North, so it’s convenient even if you don’t have a car. ”

” I love Ann & Tony’s, and not just because I’m lazy and don’t like to walk all the way down the strip to Emilias to find out they have no seating for the next two hours.

Everything is fresh and delicious. I also find it to be a great value since most entrees come with salad. The Arthur Ave bread they serve is also an unbelievable touch.

Sure its out of the way unless you’re at Fordham. But make the trip up, you definitely won’t be disappointed. Try the Rigatoni Ann & Tony’s – its not on the menu anymore but the chef will make it for you. Chicken and Rigatoni in a light oil and vinegar pepper sauce. ”

” Arguably the best food in Little Italy.

I would have given it five stars, but the service is a bit slow. However, the food is worth the wait. From the appetizers to the dessert, you won’t be disappointed.

The food portions are generous, so you’ll probably leave with a doggy bag.

The prices are a bit on the expensive side, so this isn’t a place you’d be eating at three times a week.

This is a great place to go with your family after a day at the Bronx Zoo or Botanical Garden.”
